Beginning MENSWEAR Sewing Thursdays 12:30-2:30 pm



Learn to sew,menswear/ This is 3 class sessions that may continue on as you learn to sew new garments or projects on a classroom sewing machine and serger.

These classes are perfect for complete beginners or those with some experience looking to brush up on their skills.  The classes are packed with sewing techniques and limit the class size to 5 to ensure you will the most one to one attention from an experienced sewing instructor.

WHAT WILL I LEARN? You will learn the basic uses of a sewing machine and up keep of the machine. Learn about using the correct needles and threads, how to thread the machine, wind the bobbin correctly and adjust the tension. You'll learn basic stitches, how make an open and closed seam and sew curves and corners and sew edge and top stitch and make a button hole. You will then learn how to choose a commercial pattern, lay a pattern on fabric and cut out and mark, read to sew.
 

1st class- You will sew on a machine and plan your project.  DON'T BUY ANYTHING BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS. Class supply list will be given at the first class, with examples and an opportunity to purchase in the bookstore or your local and online fabric and notion retailers.

You will be making a basic shirt with a one piece collar with short sleeves.  The pattern choices are 
Simplicity 4760, McCalls 7206, McCalls 6972 or Burda 6814.

Materials Included:
Sewing Machines, cutting tables, cutting mats, rulers, irons and a serger are available for the students use.
Requirements:
Students may bring in their own sewing machine to the first class and sewing supplies,. For the second and third class the pattern and fabric..

Ryliss Bod
Instructor Bio:
Ryliss Bod is the Founder and Director of the Sewing & Design School and has extensive experience teaching Fashion Construction and Design at a Washington State Technical College. She instructed courses for both continuing education and career training in all levels of sewing construction, home décor construction, fashion accessory construction, fashion design, fitting & pattern alterations, pattern-making, textiles, history of fashion and quilting.

She received her teaching degree in K-12 grades and studied art, clothing and textiles at Central Washington University, pattern-making and CAD at Gerber Technology, fashion design at the Paris Fashion Institute, pattern-making and construction techniques with Kenneth D. King and countless others.

Throughout her career she developed workshops and fashion shows, hired instructors and conducted fashion and fabric shopping field trips to Portland, San Francisco and New York.
