New York Fabric and Fashion Field Trip May 13 - 17, 2024



Spend week in New York city shopping for fabrics and trims with Ryliss Bod, Director and Sewing Instructor at the Sewing and Design School. 

Ryliss has put together a walking tour of the garment district that is full of fabrics and trims. She will help you with your fabric selections and answer your sewing questions. Everyone will receive a list of stores with addresses so they may return during their free time.





The schedule may change but this is what is planned as of now.

Monday, May 13, will be a full Fabric Shopping Day in the Garment District 

Tuesday, May 14
is a Fashion Design Inspiration Day, the MET and the 2024 Spring and Summer Designer Fashions at Bergdorf Goodman.

Wednesday May 15 is a Couture with Kenneth D. King and Couture Fabric Shopping at Mendel Goldberg  Fabrics

Thursday,  May 16, is Buttons, Zippers, Trims, Ribbings, and Sewing Tools and Julio Cesar. Fashion Designer 

Friday, May 17, is Inspiration at the Museum FIT & Free Time to finish up fabric and trim shopping.

 

 

*Ryliss will be staying at the Hyatt Place New York City Times Square Hotel, 350 W 39th. This is a comfortable hotel, close to the fabric stores and includes breakfast. If you wish to share a room with someone, let me know. There are rooms with 2 beds.

Our Cancellation Policy for Classes, Workshops and Trips with a Registration Deadline


  • If you cancel after the registration deadline, a student will need to replace you, you will receive a full refund, less a $5.00 processing fee and the PayPal Fees.
  • If the trip is canceled you will receive your tuition back with no fees. 
  • If the trip is postponed you will receive your tuition back if you wish with no fees.

Requirements:
Attendee must make their own flight and hotel arrangements. Ground transportation during the stay in New York city is not covered. Ryliss will be staying at the Hyatt Place New York City / Times Square 350 West 39th Street

Instructor Bio:
Ryliss Bod is the Founder and Director of the Sewing & Design School and has extensive experience teaching Fashion Construction and Design at a Washington State Technical College. She instructed courses for both continuing education and career training in all levels of sewing construction, home d?cor construction, fashion accessory construction, fashion design, fitting & pattern alterations, pattern-making, textiles, history of fashion and quilting.

She received her teaching degree in K-12 grades and studied art, clothing and textiles at Central Washington University, pattern-making and CAD at Gerber Technology, fashion design at the Paris Fashion Institute, pattern-making and construction techniques with Kenneth D. King and countless others.

Throughout her career she developed workshops and fashion shows, hired instructors and conducted fashion and fabric shopping field trips to Portland, San Francisco and New York. Ryliss has been a Contributing Editor at Sew News Magazine, Threads Magazine, judge for the 2014 RAGS Benefit, Make it With Wool Contest and the Washington State 4-H Dress Revue and host of Instagram's Sew Photo Challenge #sewApril2017 and #sewapril2018.. She is Washington state's Central West Director of the Make it with Wool Contest 2018. She may be contacted at ryliss@comcast.net.
